When a case occurs in a new postcode it is included in the postcodes download and identified under the relevant new postcode number. When a case requires review and confirmation it is included in the local government area data under the heading 'other' and the postcode 9999 is displayed in the postcode data. Some cases may occur in new postcodes and so cannot be added to the map.We include data available for download. Some postcode and local government information requires follow up and confirmation with a confirmed case and so is not added to the map until this process is completed by our Public Health team.We use 2016 ABS data for Australian postcodes and population statistics. Information about mapsData on the map is presented by local government area and postcode.We use the most up to date data available to update these maps each day.Statewide case numbers are subject to change as cases are reviewed and reclassified.
That data is continuously cleaned and processed which includes the removal of duplication and allocating cases to the date of test, rather than the date of notification to the department. Postcode population data is sourced from the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) 2016 census figures. Local government area population data is sourced from the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) Estimated Resident Population (ERP) for 2019. Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS data) is used to calculate a rate by population for postcodes and local government areas.
The ABS postcode areas may not include newly added postcodes by Australia Post.
